Threshold is a portrait of a young girl who is at an intermediate stage of her life. She can start to see what adulthood looks like, but she isn’t quite there yet. A portal shows her a future which looks a bit like the murky fairy tale forest of Hansel and Gretel. There are candy-colored butterflies, but also tangled roots and dark places. Adulthood is similarly intriguing and attractive, foreboding and intimidating. Transitioning from one part of life to another is a journey we all must take.
Threshold is 18″ x 18″ oil on cradled birch, with a 9″ cut out, under which is the portrait of the girl, 12″ x 12″ oil on wood. Threshold is available in my studio.
