Threshold is a portrait of a young girl, about 12. She at an intermediate stage of her life, one where she can start to see what adulthood looks like, but she isn’t quite there yet. She peers through a portal into a future which looks a bit like the murky fairy tale forest Hansel and Gretel got lost in. Candy-colored visionary butterflies, but also tangled roots and dark places. Adulthood is simultaneously intriguing and attractive, foreboding and intimidating.
Threshold is 18″ x 18″ oil on cradled birch, with a 9″ cut out, under which is the portrait of the girl, 12″ x 12″ oil on wood. Threshold is available in my studio.
