The Minotaur is a fearsome mythological beast, born with a human body and bull head. The Minotaur ate only human flesh, King Minos had a labyrinth constructed deep in a cave to hold the monster.
The minotaur and labyrinth symbolize dread of the unknown and the internal struggle between holding onto and letting go of our own fears.
In this painting, the Minotaur is female, and is, curiously, opening up her abdomen to release a spill of fish. She’s decided upon the “letting go” path, shedding internal conflicts and hidden layers to free herself.
The Minotaur Sheds her Secrets is 18″ x 24″ oil on wood. This painting is sold.
