The Artist

My art is about connecting moments of shared experience between people, and other living things, to create a broader, composite mythology.

Sarah’s grandfather was a rodeo rider in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, a family legend that gave her, growing up in a small NJ suburb, a burning desire to run away and join a rodeo herself.

After graduating from Philadelphia University of the Arts, she moved to LA, hoping to find work in illustration or graphic design. Instead, she discovered the “bustling pirate ship” of Roger Corman’s indie film production company, New World Pictures, where she landed her first (of many) jobs designing murals, props and sets for films. Welcome to the rodeo!

Now, working full time as a visual artist, she creates colorful and stylized multi-disciplinary artworks that combine myth-making, outsider art, and contemporary urban culture. Her materials and processes include acrylic and oil paints, hand-made collage elements, three dimensional assemblage, and photography.

The subjects she paints are people and animals captured in the act of being themselves. In these imaginative representations she illuminates the outlines and afterimages of ambient energy and suffused magic surrounding ordinary moments.

Sarah’s artworks have been exhibited in galleries across the Western US, including Band of Vices; Dorado 806; La Luz de Jesus Gallery; Sylvia White Gallery; Gabba Gallery; Krikawa Gallery, Tucson; Ghost Gallery, Seattle; the Ontario Museum of History and Art; San Luis Obispo Museum of Art; The Autry Museum; and she was the recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Best Artist at Lancaster MOAH/Cedar.

Sarah recently relocated from Los Angeles to Richmond, VA. She also lives part time in New Jersey. The diverse people, animals and environments she encounters in her travels often become the subjects of her art.
