Tea

Inspired by a visit to an Asbury Park bistro where I saw a young woman at a table, surrounded by potted plants, texting on her phone. It was a very mundane scene you could  encounter almost anywhere, but it was also kind of magical, as if she was in the process of conjuring.

The title, “Tea” is obviously about the tea on the table. But “tea” also means gossip. To “spill the tea” means to tell what you know. This woman is reading and sharing in a third space that we aren’t part of.
But does that make her lonely? Or is she creating boundaries in a world that is increasingly non-private?
