Rise (to Claim Their Bones)

After seeing a pair of condors over the Kern River I decided to paint one, life sized. As wide as this painting is (60″) it falls short of the California Condor’s wingspan by 48″!  Cathartidae species consume what is dead, decaying, foul, making space for new life. While exploring the idea of eating/consuming/cleaning bones, I came across a Reddit chat between a couple of gamers about the proper translation of a phrase used in a Japanese combat game. The phrase translated to English is “yield my flesh to claim their bones” meaning, we must sacrifice some battles to achieve our goals.
