Event coordinator of art event for non-profit The Foundation for the Preservation of the Santa Susana Mountains which serves to purchase and preserve undeveloped habitat lands in the west San Fernando Valley. As Develeopment Chair for this organization, I am tasked with thinking of ways to generate funding and increase visibility of this organization. A need came up for new t-shirts for our volunteers and I came up with an idea to have FPSSM host a city-wide art contest as a fundraising and promotional opportunity for the Foundation and it’s efforts. I then created and promoted the contest, open to all residents of LA City and County. The contest drew many applicants, three winners were selected. I connected with REI, the local outdoor activities retailer, who generously agreed to donate the prizes. I contacted a local art gallery to donate it’s facility for our event use. Local district council offices (Mitchell Englander and Bob Blumenfield) were invited and attended the event, awarding gorgeous calligraphed certifications to the winners. The winning artworks were applied to products which have been made available through a new Foundation shop on Redbubble, purchases from which are now promoting and benefitting the Foundation.
