The Minotaur is a fearsome mythological beast, born with a human body and bull head, eating only human flesh. The unnatural offspring of human desire, King Minos had a labyrinth constructed deep in a cave to hold the monster.
The minotaur and labyrinth symbolize dread of the unknown, the search, along often dark and winding paths, for truth and meaning, and the internal struggle between holding onto and letting go of our own fears.
In this painting, the Minotaur is female, and is, curiously, opening up her abdomen to release a spill of fish. The fish squirm and flop on the ground as she lets them go, deciding to shed these uncomfortable things inside of herself, internal conflicts and hidden secrets, to become free to find her own true nature
The Minotaur Sheds her Secrets is 24″ x 18″ oil on wood. This painting is sold.
